Ancona Respira (“Ancona Breathes”) is the visual identity of Ancona's Air Pollution Project, created together with the agency Lirici Greci Design Consultancy. The mark comes from a mathematical concept, the Pythagoras tree: shape and colour change with the values that the air-monitoring stations detect across the territory.
The Pythagoras tree
A square, on top of it two smaller squares, and the same rule all over again: the figure builds itself by repeating. Here the squares become a crown, and each branch changes size and colour while staying the same tree.
The data that moves it
What moves it are the air-monitoring stations. On the website, the tree of the day sits above the measured values — PM10, ozone, nitrogen dioxide — each with its own measuring station and a row of small squares showing its level.
On this project I worked as a graphic designer. The art direction is by Lirici Greci Design Consultancy.
